Approchez…
Come closer…
I am a little Parisian chromolithograph.
I was born around 1900, when newspapers were cried out in the streets and passed from hand to hand.
Look at this young man.
He pretends to be reading Le Petit Parisien…
But do not be fooled.
Behind his enormous newspaper, he is really watching the two young women passing by.
And they have certainly noticed him.
In those days, I was an advertisement: a small, colourful picture designed to carry the newspaper’s name into people’s homes and keep it in their memories.
Then someone surrounded me with gold and protected me beneath glass.
For more than a century, my reader has yet to turn the page.
The two Parisian women are still waiting.
And only I know what truly caught his eye.
